Severe infections demand early detection of pathogens and drug resistance

Antibiotic resistance and even multidrug resistance make therapy more and more difficult. Curetis is committed to expand its Unyvero Cartridge portfolio by other healthcare related diseases like wound infections and sepsis among others. To match clinical needs beside bacteria testing the panels will target virus, respectively fungi detection and add more antibiotic resistance markers.

Unyvero P50 – Pneumonia Cartridge

Tackling the diagnostic challenge of severe pneumonia cases

Curetis focuses on severe bacterial infections providing as first application a solution for comprehensive pneumonia testing. Pneumonia - highly prevalent in both the community and the hospital - poses a considerable medical challenge; however, most current diagnostics still are relying on cultured based technologies, which can take days to deliver results. Many molecular diagnostic tests are not fully integrated and difficult to handle or do not use multiplex PCR.

The Unyvero P50 Pneumonia Cartridge provides a single source for both detection of bacteria and antibiotic resistance. This means a confident treatment decision earlier in the cycle of care.

The Unyvero Pneumonia Cartridge combines the necessary detection of bacteria and resistances to aid in diagnosing pneumonias into a single test panel with results available in approximately 3 hours. The Unyvero Pneumonia Cartridge handles one patient sample analyzing more than 50 DNA targets simultaneously.

The pathogens included into the Unyvero Pneumonia panel have been selected for their clinical relevance and recommendations from experts. Resistance genes have been chosen for their frequency of occurrence in combination with the selected bacteria and significance of concerned antibiotic classes in clinical use. The cartridge detects the following pathogens and antibiotic resistances:

Future Unyvero Cartridges

The Unyvero Cartridge which fully integrates DNA purification, multiplex PCR and detection is an excellent tool for further molecular testing.

Surgical Site Infection Cartridge

Wound and abdominal infections - a major source of morbidity

Even the most simple surgical interventions can result in severe infections - however fast diagnostic tools are missing to contribute to the quick selection of appropriate antimicrobials. The Curetis Wound Infection Cartridge will analyze bacteria for wound and abdominal infections and important antibiotic resistances.

Blood Stream Infection Cartridge

Sepsis - a significant medical and economic burden

Experts agree: only early detection of blood stream infections will improve  medical outcome. The Blood Stream Infection Cartridge will be designed to detect bacteria and potentially relevant resistances in a short time to aid in fighting this deadly disease.

Tuberculosis Cartridge

Globally the biggest healthcare threat - multidrug resistant Tuberculosis

The Unyvero Tuberculosis Cartridge will identify a broad range of mycobacteria and antibiotic resistances which will enable the early detection of multidrug resistant TB.

Active multidrug resistant tuberculosis poses a global challenge. The quick identification of contagious patients needs improved diagnostics, not only detecting the mycobacteria, but also identifying potential antibiotic resistances as quickly as possible. The Unyvero Solution combines bacteria and resistance detection into a single test panel, with results available in a short time. This ensures rapid detection of this dangerous condition even in resource poor environments.
